Kibworth SG is now running a 'World Sporting' event once a month.
See:
http://www.worldsporting.net/diary/index.php

I'm, not sure if I'll be going, but if it is a nice day I may go along.

The owner is starting hosting these events as the twice monthly CPSA ESP
events are dying a death. He usually runs them on the first and thrid
Sundays of the month. It has been noticeable since last Summer that the
numbers taking part are dropping compared to recent years. The 1st of
the month isnt so bad, but the 3rd is struggling to get enough entrants
to cover ths costs.
I've got my own ideas why the numbers are falling - cost of entry, lack
of faith in the CPSA and consequent non-renewal of membership, some of
the language and behaviour of a few at Kibworth in the past (mainly the
foul language that was regularly heard), and the lack of investment
there which makes each shoot very similar to the last, with no
improvement to the road surface and walkways (though that could be said
of many grounds).

So, has anyone tried these events?
Maybe a worthy contender in years to come to the CPSA?
Any thoughts?
Alan.

The price now for the 100 bird CPSA ESP at Kibworth is £34 competition,
£28 birds only, so I'd expect it to be roughly the same for the 'World'
event, though I'd hope for a bit cheaper, but think it pretty unlikely.

It seems to have a good foundation, and may grow to be quite big - I was
surprised by how many have shot the rounds last year, and the website
seems a bit more clued up compared to the CPSA site.

Hey Al

Never shot World Sporting and havent shot much recently, but now my
lass has kindly dumped me by text I'm now free to shoot more - hmmm
great!

Kibworths not so bad. Problems? The layout needs to change regularly
- weekly would be good! The prize money at Kibworth has long been
criticised although I believe this has now changed - winning a fiver
doesnt really cut the mustard! Another problem is that lots of people
shoot Kibworth on a competition day - member club rounds costing £22?
CPSA green fee (not many I presume) and those shooting a registered
round.

Language and behaviour at Kibworth? Who and whats that then? Is
anyone I know involved? christ its not me is it??

Good news that youre on the committee Al, so do we get 15 english
skeet county championships this year?

Yes, overall, it is a good ground, but, the ESP course it much the same
every time, so regular shooters know the birds well, and can hit them
easily - even I have had good scores there!

Ground staff are the worst - they have now been told to sort themselves
out, and act in a professional manner, which hasnt gone down too well.
There were a few complaints around Christmas, and the response from one
of the partners was to "tell them to FO, and dont come back".
I dont know if you know, but Brian has left now leaving Baz and Mick as
'partners', though it seems Baz has rather more equity in the Co., and
whatever he says, gets done. Things are getting better, staff now have
uniform, and the ground has started to be improved. They also have a new
full time staff member doing promotion and organisation.

skeet county championships this year?
As many as it takes until I win a medal!
The next committee meeting will sort out the Skeet dates. The present
provisional dates are no good for the skeet shooters, they are going to
be changed so there is no clash between other events - the old committee
did the provisional dates, and there is no referencing other
championships etc, so the 2 ground owners sit there with a diary, and
say "I can do that one then, you do this one then" etc.
The Committee has had a real change with 5 or 6 new members, and all are
enthusiastic about changing things for the better, so, hopefully, it
will get better for the County.

And I turned up, and good it was too.
No cheaper than CPSA events though at £34, which I think is just about
the limit for me for a 100 bird competition.

Although using a usual Kibworth layout, the presentation of the birds is
different to a CPSA event.
Typically there were 8 shots on a stand, with 2 traps on each stand. A
following pair from Trap 1, a following pair from Trap 2, an on report 1
+ 2, and a simutaneous 1+ 2.
Different, but better I think.
I shot poorly, and finished with 65. It should have been at least 70 -
there were some stands where I just lost concentration and missed
sitters.
Then James Hickman comes along and gets in the prize money after not
shooting for 2 months!
Another good thing is the results and prizes are already on the website
on a Sunday evening - not like the 'possibly wait 3 or 4 weeks' on the
CPSA site.
Alan (who now has an 18 handicap!)

A tad annoying to miss all the dinner plates on stand 1 and all the
rabbits on a later stand, so that s 7 clays, dropped some silly ones -
you know hitting them all then drop a pair ... so overall dropped way
too many easy ones. A little silly but wey hay a tenner wooooo takes
the sting out of £34 entry and a handicap of 10 for next time, enjoyed
it and might take it a bit more seriously next time! Not too sure
about handicaps of 30 or so though, and hey! I reckon a 65 gives you
ahandicap of 25 for the next shoot (90 less score) Todays handicap was
based on a formula, the next shoot will be different!
