Why is it when I shoot club shoots I avg 68/100, I then do a reg shoot
(Risley) and hit such a low amount I can't bring myself to type it
here!!
This has happened every time I have done a reg shoot and I am really
miffed, I doubt I will do any more reg's.

I try not to put myself under pressure but I miss birds I could
normally smash. I don't expect to get in the 60's as reg shoots seem to
be much harder than the club shoots but my score was appalling.

Sporting Targets isnt the easiest of registered shoots as I understand
it, never done one there but the towers can be a little daunting.

I'd stick to shooting registered shoots, it will help your shooting and
improve your club rounds.

Think of it thus ..... you become a great shooter at your local club,
youre the man, you can get them all .... you go with some mates to a
registered shoot and .... you cant do it! Not good!

But if you keep at the registered game, shoot different grounds, you
will learn more about target presentation and how to shoot them, you'll
become a better shot. If you book a lesson at a groud for the day
AFTER a registered shoot and go back to those targets that you thought
you sucked at .... you will tackle the things you hate and so hopefully
not worry so much next time.

The pressure of a shoot being 'registered' can do funny things, theyre
no different really so again, shoot more to get rid of the feeling of
perceived pressure.

Other than that? Dunno!

So true.
On Thursday, I did a practice round at Kibworth, 1 stand had 8 teal like
clays, I hit the 1st 4 well, and said I'd leave the next 4 shots, and
use them on a harder stand, just to get the practice on ones I couldnt
hit.
I did the same course yesterday in a 100 sporting, and only got 2 out of
8 on that same stand.
The same the previous week - for a change, I thought that 12 of the 15
stands were all easy, yet I had a nightmare for the first 8 stands,
getting 2 out of 6, 3/8 etc, it is hard to see how i could miss so many
easy shots, it makes it worse waiting and seeing people get 8/8, then
you go on, and miss the first 4, hit the next 2, then miss another.
I definitiely feel pressurised on Registered shoots, and I think that is
why I miss so many easy shots.
Alan.

The thing I found helped - and obviously this needs a multichoke gun - was
to practice with the tighest chokes I could find, and compete with
1/4+1/4. The added confidence boost in competitions of hitting things you
might expect to miss in practice because of the tight chokes can have a
very beneficial relaxing effect!

The other thing that might be relevant is tiredness from increased
concentration: how do your first and second half scores compare in the
registered? If you just "go to pieces" in the second half, it may be
something simple like your master eye drifting as you get tired.

Other than that, as the other posters say - keep at it, it will get
better.
