David/Sarah
How did it go at Haimwood - was it as you remembered and did you show
them how to do it??
Dave
They had a 68-bird shoot on. Don't ask me why it was 68. From next week
they're back up to 100 bird shoots for the summer I believe.
As well as the standard club competition they had a side-by-side comp
going, so I borrowed Mark's (the ground owner's) s-by-s and shot two
cards. A 32" O/U Browning and a 26" short-stocked s-by-s game gun make
quite a contrast :)
I believe (*) I won the main competition with 55ex68, and came second in
the s/s with 41. Sarah shot a 38, but then we had been out partying
rather hard with friends in Shrewsbury the night before and she wasn't
really with it :)
It was a good set of targets - a bit easier than a registered shoot, and
with a number of "kick yourself if you don't straight it" stands, but with
a number of more challenging ones. The fast dropping crosser and the
incoming "dropping duck" made an interesting pair to shoot over the top
of.
Unfortunately the prize in the main competition is a non-transferrable,
non-date-changeable free entry in the next week's competition, and it's a
bit of a drive to go back and collect it :( But at £14 for 68 birds
(<£21/100) for non members you can't really complain...
All in all great fun though. Must try to get back for some of his
100-birders over the summer.

(*) I don't *know* I won it, because there was another squad taking a very
leisurely stroll round the layout and still with several stands to go when
we left, but they weren't expected to come anywhere close, as I understand
it.
