Does anyone know if Haimwood still do their Sunday morning shoots?

It's the ground that really hooked Sarah and I on the sport, and we're
going to be in the neighbourhood this coming weekend... anyone else local
to there? I seem to remember at least one or two from the NG shoot had
shot there?

Not sure if they shoot every weekend in winter but give them a ring on
01691-830764 - if they are not shooting and you are around Shrewsbury -
email me and you could try our local club -25miles from Shrewbury down M54 -
1/2hr run

They had a 68-bird shoot on. Don't ask me why it was 68. From next week
they're back up to 100 bird shoots for the summer I believe.

As well as the standard club competition they had a side-by-side comp
going, so I borrowed Mark's (the ground owner's) s-by-s and shot two
cards. A 32" O/U Browning and a 26" short-stocked s-by-s game gun make
quite a contrast :)

I believe (*) I won the main competition with 55ex68, and came second in
the s/s with 41. Sarah shot a 38, but then we had been out partying
rather hard with friends in Shrewsbury the night before and she wasn't
really with it :)

It was a good set of targets - a bit easier than a registered shoot, and
with a number of "kick yourself if you don't straight it" stands, but with
a number of more challenging ones. The fast dropping crosser and the
incoming "dropping duck" made an interesting pair to shoot over the top
of.

Unfortunately the prize in the main competition is a non-transferrable,
non-date-changeable free entry in the next week's competition, and it's a
bit of a drive to go back and collect it :( But at £14 for 68 birds
(<£21/100) for non members you can't really complain...

All in all great fun though. Must try to get back for some of his
100-birders over the summer.

(*) I don't *know* I won it, because there was another squad taking a very
leisurely stroll round the layout and still with several stands to go when
we left, but they weren't expected to come anywhere close, as I understand
it.

We appear to have come first, second, and third between us. DC also
entered the side by side comp which was running concurrently (with a
borrowed SxS). An interesting shoot with varied targets, and some great
people in the same squad.

I was talking to Steve today and he was there but said he didn't see you -
he also was on the p*** night before so wasn't quite with it either. he
managed a 53 - did they have the crosser on going across front of bank and
shot from inside the shed?

That was the dropping crosser as a sim-pair with the incoming "dropping
duck" which came over the bank and in. The hardest pair of the day, and
the one we started on :)

He must have been in the "taking its time" squad then; I had 55, second
was 50 when I left!

..........yup......didn't do too badly on that. As is usually the case I
missed the easy ones, what with attempting to think and everything :-)
