Seems everyone has hibernated recently.

I did a 100 ESP last Sunday, in between the wind and rain, there were 2
or 3 shafts of sunlight!
A score of 61 was a bit disappointing, I'd like to say conditions didnt
help, but I cant really blame conditions - I hit at least 1 of every
target, but managed to miss 2 or 3 out of 6 or 8 on most stands - the
one I thought I'd miss was the only one I cleared - a fast overhead
going away, and a fastish low crosser.
On seeing the scores for the day, I noticed a few names from here, 2
Christensons (sp?), and a Hickman, who I did see on the day - as usual
he was bemoaning his performance!

Any plans for this year?
I've been doing a bit of DTL, 4 times now, but still havent broken the
90 hits yet, I tried 2 weeks ago, changing my techinque totally. Before,
I'd hold my gun ( a sporter model) slightly off my shoulder, see the
clay, then mount, and get 85-89 hits. I was told I was doing it
completely wrong, and should have it mounted and firmly clamped to my
chin and shoulder before I called. So I went and did that, and got 82
hits, my worst score ever!
Afterwards, i realised where I had gone wrong, when premounted, I was
perfectly set, yet with a sporter gun, I was shooting below the clay -
by not being mounted, my natural hold would make the gun shoot a little
higher - I know this, as on long crossers, I have to aim below the clay
to hit it.
So, I either have to compensate when premounting, which isnt really a
good idea - it isnt natural, or carry on as I was, and go totally
against the 'proper' way, and mount when I see it.

Skeet - I havent done any since last June - I've now got a 20 bore which
is ideal, so if it isnt too sunny this Saturday (the skeet stands at
Kibworth face the sun in the winter months, making stands 2 and 3 rather
difficult) I'll be trying out a registered 100. If I do badly, it'll
just go to make my Category C safe for another year!

And finally, prize money. Yep, I started competitive shooting a year ago
this week. I've won prize money twice in that time - good hey?
Unfortunately, the prize money has been a lot less than the entry fee -
£5 for the Skeet county Champs (3rd C class I think) and £20 as joint C
class winner of a 100 Sporting event. One of the few times that I didnt
pay to enter the competiton, I won C class by a big margin, and the 1st
prize was £60.Since then I've nealry always entered competion, and had
some truly terrible scores - 37/100 in a 100 ESP event before Christmas
- and I always turn up with thoughts of getting 90!

Anyway, a good new year to all, and hope to meet some of you this year.
Alan.

See my previous comment - my newsreader hadn't picked anything up since
October (I thought it was quiet!) but I'm back now!

Yes, Sarah and I were there at Kibworth on Sunday. All I can say is that
you may have been disappointed with your 61 in C class - but how do you
think I felt about my 60 in A class :(((((

My (our) only excuse is that we arrived late and were rushed to start
shooting before last entries. I'm not sure what makes me hit targets, but
one thing I have learnt over the 3.5years I have been shooting is that
arriving late at a competition is *never* good for your score.

Having said that, it was a hard layout: Leonard on 87 and Dunbavin on 84
gives a hint to that, even if Ed Solomons did manage a 93.

Hey, start the year badly and things can only get better [ I hope ]

I find that if I pre-mount for trap disciplines then by default I tense up
which causes me to raise my shoulders. If I consciously think "shoulders
down" - something which somehow happens automatically if I go for very
soft knees - then my scores benefit enormously. Works on Skeet 1 and 7 as
well.

Hello everyone..

Lets hope this year will be better than last --
Alan - we all go expecting to hit 90 and it's a bit of a disappointment when
you only manage 95 - Kidding -- it's always a pigger when you get in prize
money and it's a fiver - my only claim to fame in 06 was 28th Dec at Victory
challenge at Hodnet joint second in C with 68 - 69 won - 50 quid and 250
shells so if you are in C next dec might pay you to have a go.
