Hmm, possibly 'browned' then but I think it's best that you take it to a
decent gunshop/smith and ask their advice. Without having a look I'm wary to
offer advice. It could have disastrous results...... I wouldn't want that.

Is it chromed or does it have some other coating.?

No it's not chromed, it's a sort of dull finish.
